The Nokia announced the 808 PureView, a smartphone with an astounding 41-megapixel image sensor. The Nokia 808 will be the first smartphone by Nokia to include its new PureView imaging technology, which combines a high-resolution sensor with Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia-developed algorithms. Typically you might want a high megapixel camera in order to take photos that can be printed larger – what makes the Nokia 808 PureView special, however, it what it does with those pixels. The 808 uses a new pixel oversampling technology, that captures seven pixels of information and then condenses those into one single pixel. This reportedly results in an exceptionally sharp photo, and the ability to zoom in on any portion of a 5-megapixel picture without losing clarity in the image. The technology also works on video, so you can shoot a full HD video at 30fps and 4x zoom. Nokia has made some untouched images taken with the camera available online (as a sizable download) so you can get a feel for the quality. In addition to offering a decent lens and large image sensor, the camera also has a few other notable features.

Porsche Design: BlackBerry mobile phone

Posted by: | Comments (4)

The phone with the futuristic QWERTY keyboard was formerly known as the BlackBerry Knight. The handset will be available from Porsche Design stores later this year and there is speculation that the price tag will be a very Porsche-like $2,000. The device offers solid construction, for one thing with a forged stainless steel frame, leather back, and a sculpted QWERTY keyboard. The model is equipped with a exclusive Porsche Design UI and a Wikitude World Browser augmented reality app. Each unit of the P’9981 gets a premium PIN that allows the user of the device to find another P’9981 user in a crowd. Other specs include a single-core 1.2GHz processor, HD video capture and 8GB of native storage that can be pumped up to 40GB using a microSD card. The phone is NFC enabled and has BlackBerry 7 OS on board. That means the phone has the second-generation WebKit browser and includes the fast and smooth liquid graphics.

BARCELONA, Spain–Stephen Sneeden, product marketing manager for Sony Mobile, told in an interview here at Mobile World Congress that he predicts the company will likely only release quad-core Sony smartphones in early 2013. He does, however, state that this is just his assumption–the company will make the official announcements when it’s ready. “We’re going to join quad-core when we feel that the performance matches the battery efficiency,” he said. “Because right now we don’t feel that is there. What we are going to be doing in the second half of the year is moving to the Cortex A15 architecture, which we feel outperforms the current quad-core architecture. “You’ll see in 2013, as we’re evaluating the quad-core performance where it makes sense, where you’re not suffering in quality and the performance truly is there, and there really is something that demanding applications need,” he contiuned.” That’s when we make the right move to quad-core.”

HTC Bleyback smartphone concept

Posted by: | Comments (2)

The HTC Bleyback an extremely thin and flat concept. As you can see there’s Beats Audio branding on board, so the cool headphones will be included in the mix. I wonder what camera sensor can fit in such a tiny profile. HTC BleyBack was thinner than 7mm, although the designer had something like less than 8-9mm in mind. The designer envisions a HTC Bleyback priced at 489 euros.
