Eco-smartphones for greener communication
ByTechnology drives me crazy! Most of us have this thing on our minds when we buy a new phone. To keep up with the technology, we have entered into a never-ending race. With the number of cell phone users increasing by every second, we are forgetting about the old phones that have already found a place in our junkyards. As a result, the world is quickly turning into a trash box of e-waste. For the past few years, e-waste disposal has been causing serious threat to the environment. To control this hazardous pile, Samsung has come up with two eco friendly handsets, Samsung Replenish and Samsung Restore.
Samsung Replenish, an Android phone is created partially with recycled plastics. An impressive eco-credential of the phone is reduction in the usage of environmentally sensitive materials: RoHS compliant6, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Brominated Flame Retardants (BFRs), phthalates, and beryllium. The casing includes 34.6 percent post-consumer recycled plastic content and 82 percent of the device is made from recyclable materials. The fully recyclable packaging of the phone incorporates 80 percent post-consumer waste material and uses soy links. Amazing! You can just recycle the whole thing. If this was not enough, an optional solar charging battery cover will also be available to make it a complete green device. The phone is also energy efficient.
On the other hand, Samsung Restore also boasts about the large amount of materials that can be recycled. Energy efficiency and reduced use of environmentally sensitive materials also make it an equally greener phone.
You need not worry about compromising on the features when going green. Both Replenish and Restore come with attractive features and good looks. Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Telecommunications America explains:
We are excited to expand our portfolio of eco-friendly devices to now include the Samsung Replenish with Sprint, Samsung’s first Android-powered eco-friendly phone, and the Samsung Restore with Virgin Mobile. Both the Replenish and Restore offer an impressive feature set with hardware made from recycled materials and eco-centric2 packaging, giving customers the option to have an eco-friendly phone without having to compromise features and functionality.
Recycling being an important method to deal with e-waste, both the phones claim to be greener phones. Now, we can surely welcome the technology that has good sensibility toward the environment. Samsung is bang on target with these new products.
